India – Affordable technology for clean water

Freshwater is an essential renewable resource necessary for the survival of ecosystems. It is highly required especially for human consumption, animals and agricultural purposes. Without such, existence of these organisms will not be possible. Some places in India have polluted groundwater which is the big problem for many people in India. In this essay I’m going to write about the problems and the solutions about water shortage in India.

In India, people need to walk 2 miles to get water and this affect the community. Some families stop their children to go their school for helping their family to bring some water from long distance. Its also the lack of financial and technical resources to distribute safe water. There are also diseases caused by the shortage of water. One of which is Hepatitis E. It’s an waterborne disease due to the improper treatment of water that flows in kitchen, hospitals and school.

There are some possible solutions to solve this problems. According to the diseases, urgent check up was rendered to lessen the possibilities of the illness to spread. Also the water project done by Wells For Life that will help to bring clean water to the most poor communities in India. DWPA, local NGO in India will join as well and they will fund fresh water well projects that will reduce the suffering the lack of access to clean water causes.

All in all, you can see that fresh water is very important in life and we all need it. Countries should help India and give them engineering and make some projects with developed tools, equipment and technique.

Global Warming problems and Solutions

No one knows how the earth looks like when it has serious problem like global warming. Many people hear and talk about global warming but in short, its very dangerous problem which threaten our world. The movie of global warming show a lot of the negative results of global warming. In this case, the government will start and try to solve the problem because we can't tolerate the high temperature after several years.

Other than the factors that have been mentioned earlier there is the greenhouse effect which also known as global warming. The greenhouse effect occurs when the gas CO2 is released into the atmosphere from the burning fossil fuel like oil, coal and gas it traps the radiation of heat that the sun sends to earth to keep it warmer, the earth absorbs 70% of the incoming rays and sends 30% back to space to maintain the heat balance, but with the increased CO2 in the atmosphere the earth traps more heat than before and that destroys this balance. Also forest destruction for industrial purpose raises the heat because trees absorb CO2 it plays as earth’s supporter in absorbing increased CO2 emissions. When the trees are cut there is nothing that will absorb CO2 and when the trees are burned it releases the CO2 stored inside and that contributes in increasing the heat. Not to forget also the growth of the population has a role too. The increased population on earth means more resource exploiting, the use of new technologies and fossil fuel that also lets the earth gets warmer which leads us to a conclusion that the more CO2 increases it also followed by increase in population.
To cut down CO2 emissions some solutions are needed and must be taken into action as soon as possible. Closing down all coal-fired power plants would be one unless it has carbon capture technology and works in an efficient way. Also ending all fossil fuel subsidies which mean that all the governments that still supports and spend money on fossil fuel industries has to end because there are people love to maintain their privilege even if the earth is burning hot. Taxing all windfall profits that are caused by investors, such as the $148 billion that was taken by five major US oil companies in 2007 returning half to the taxpayer and investing the other half in climate solutions is also might turn effective.
There are also minor solutions that one person can help reduce carbon emissions they produce and reduce consumption of sources in the daily life. Buying a fuel-efficient car would reduce your daily consumption and also reduce Co2. Also using light-efficient bulbs at home is better in lighting and less in consuming electricity. Buying products that are made from recycled materials and if a product u by cannot be recycled than be sure to buy the highest quality of this product to use it for a long time.
This is a very important matter to us all humans, we must stand for it and come up with a lot of new solutions as much as possible for the next generation. But nobody knows what might happen in the next upcoming years, things might go beyond what has been predicted with the usual surprises of the nature.

Cool cites

There is a project which is held by the SDCJ which is a union of 11 Japanese companies. They will go to build a big city that has clear air with all things we want. I watched a video about this project with our teacher. This project is called Cool City. Now I will write about the video which describe a lot of about the project.

First the aim of this project is to reduce the carbon emissions which are still rocketing since the Earth has changed. According to the movie we saw that we need to reduce about 50% of CO2 emissions. Also it shows us that 90% of CO2 comes from transportation and buildings and the project will reduce it by using natural resources, like using hybrid cars and solar ships. The city includes of 6 parts which are business zone, sport zone, residential zone, solar power, plant farms and resort zone.

In my opinion, the Cool city will change a lot in our country because we will live in a healthy environment and also it will help people to get a natural life and enjoy nice atmospheric air. Finally it will help us to use energy without any pollution.

Carbon Footprint Report

My Carbon Footprint Report – Blog Project Task 5

Carbon footprint is the total of greenhouse gas emissions that caused by one person from what he or she consumes of food, electricity, housing and transportation. Measuring a footprint doesn’t actually mean that one have to put his or her foot on a device to measure it, but its just some of direct questions that one have to answer in order to get the measurement of the carbon footprint. There are several websites that can measure the carbon footprint and I went to a site called Footprint, after answering all of the questions my foot print turned out that I live as if we have 2.23 planets! Which means that for each person like me needs 2.23 another earths to sustain the way of my living style.

After comparing my footprint with some of my class mates the lowest was 2.04 planets and the highest was 4.12 planets. The UAE’s carbon footprint is 4.5 the number of planets needed to sustain the earth’s population if every country had the same ecological footprint as the UAE according to the website (Time out Abu Dhabi).

There are various ways to reduce the amount of consumption of the earth’s sources or reduce the harm one person can cause like using more clean ways of transportation by walking or using a bike to go for a small errands to the market instead of the car. Also in the house one can use energy saving features lights or Choose energy efficient appliances. For food you can at least plant a garden of your own or choose food with less packaging to reduce waste and for housing use biodegradable, non-toxic cleaning products. Everyone in the world are trying their best to reduce the carbon emissions anyway possible and the UAE too is participating in this cause so should we as UAE citizens (Reduce Your Footprint).

Inconvenient truth reviews

Inconvenient truth reviews

The movie inconvenient truth by Al Gore deals about the topic of global warming. Al Gore chooses an example of a hot topic of general interest because it’s important and interesting. I will describe two reviews of the movie, two positives and one negative.

An author called Niffiwan from Canada – Toronto, thinks this movie is a good film, but there are some problems. In his opinion he thinks it’s a good movie for a teacher to show and educate his students about global warming, and for the people who just heard about global warming and want to see it in reality. But the problem came in the unnoticeable period when Al Gore changed the subject and talked about himself. The author said that he came to watch the movie about global warming not about Al Gore losing the election and that what made him disappointed (Niffiwan).

One other author thinks the film should never have been made. Because he thinks its all about the job of political leaders and policymakers to protect against possible future calamities, the think that made the author didn’t like the movie is because Mr. Al Gore didn’t take the full responsibility of the movie and changed the subject to his political past and his elections. That may put some viewers off, the glimpses into Gore's own childhood are unnecessary distractions (Scott).

In my opinion I think this movie is important but it’s so boring and long, Al Gore changed the global warming subject to his lost in the election and it became a political subject.

An Inconvenient Truth (2006)

Global warming is a serious problem which threatens the world. It’s the increase in the temperature of the earth. This problem started when the greenhouse gases increased in the middle of the twentieth century.
Al Gore mentioned greater causes of global warming. Firstly, the technology is affecting the earth and these new machines and cars emit more carbon which heats the atmosphere. Also the population is a serious cause. More people use cars that emit more carbon. Using machines that use much electricity. These problems cause many effects. It melts the ice on the sea which raises the level of the sea. This raise of the water causes flood which affect the coast and cities.

Finally, Al Gore said that everyone has the solution for this problem. He said that we need to buy machines that do not use more electricity and do not emit much carbon. Countries should use the carbon capture which collects the carbon and puts it underground.
